Living in DC, there seem to be a lot of people that take pride in not watching television.  ”I prefer to read” or “I really like the theater.”  The undercurrent is that television is a medium for morons who live in the middle of the country. It is nonsense.  There are plenty of books that will rot your brain just as badly as the worst reality TV show.  And TV shows like the Wire (poster above) and Breaking Bad are as compelling as the best literature.  Just because it is written down doesn’t make it art. And just because it is filmed doesn’t make it nonsense. This post may or may not be the result of an argument I had with a hipster woman at a bar a few months ago.   Our conversation started when she sat next to me and, unprompted, told me she thought I was a douchebag because I was wearing a collared shirt.  I enjoyed arguing with her for a few hours.
